Thank you to those of you who participated in the first AAPA Town Hall meeting discussing international outreach and advocacy.  We hope you found the town hall format a helpful way to have direct access to the Board of Trustees (BOT) and felt included in the conversation.  Your questions will help guide us in the next phase of exploring an international membership category.

Our second town hall meeting is planned to take place during the Spring Meeting in Portland on Tuesday, March 13, at 7 pm CDT (5 pm PDT).  Those registered will be able to join in person, along with Town Hall presenter and BOT Chair John Eckman, who will be onsite.  The rest of the membership will again be invited to join remotely via GoToWebinar.

Our next topic will be the upcoming ASCP BOC Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) Requirement Change for PAs.

The AAPA advocates, promotes, and sustains the highest education and professional standards for the profession, for all associated educational training programs, and for individual pathologists' assistants.  Part of those standards is maintaining competency in gross examination of cancer cases in accordance with current staging criteria.  Requiring an increase in CMP credits including specific credits related to handling cancer cases is an important step that demonstrates and maintains the cancer care expertise of a certified pathologists' assistant.  An increase in CMP credits brings our requirements to a level on par with other mid-level practitioners.  In the next town hall, we plan to discuss how and why the new CMP requirements came in to place.  We will better define the new Advanced Cancer Credit and give examples of what will qualify and where to find the new credits.
In addition, we will talk about the timeline of the new credit requirements and will clear up any confusion about the implementation dates.  We'll also address how to assign the new credits in your ASCP tracking journal.

You will be invited to pre-submit questions before the presentation, as well as submit additional questions during the live town hall meeting.

Mark your calendar now for Tuesday, March 13, at 7 pm CDT (5 pm PDT in Portland).  Details on how to reserve your spot will follow.
