Congratulations to ASCP's 40 Under Forty Honorees!

The ASCP 40 Under Forty program celebrates the brightest emerging leaders and innovators of pathology, laboratory medicine, and ASCP.  Applications are submitted from Pathologists, Pathology Residents, and Laboratory Professionals under the age of forty, who are demonstrating stellar achievements in the early stages of their careers.

This year, three AAPA members received this distinction!  We are proud to recognize Janelle Fabian, PA(ASCP)CM; William (Bill) Gorday, BSc, MS, PA(ASCP)CM; and Chevanne Scordinsky, MS, PA(ASCP)CM as 2018 honorees.

Show your support for your colleagues and cast your vote to help elevate them into the TOP FIVE. Voting is open until Sunday, July 8 at 11:59 p.m. CST.

Janelle Fabian, PA(ASCP)CM

Janelle Fabian, PA(ASCP)CM, spent a week of winter break during college volunteering at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Md., where she shadowed Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mary G. Ripple and became fascinated with pathology.  Her original goal was to attend medical school and pursue a career as a medical examiner.  For the application process, she needed shadowing hours, and after meeting two pathologists' assistants at Reading Hospital in Pennsylvania, and watching them gross surgical specimens for two days, she knew she found her true calling.  A graduate of the University of Maryland’s PA Program, Janelle now works at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.

William (Bill) Gorday, BSc, MS, PA(ASCP)CM

William (Bill) Gorday, BSc, MS, PA(ASCP)CM, has worked in pathology for 18 years.  He began his career in 2000 as a medical laboratory technologist and trained on the job as a pathologists' assistant, learning how to do autopsies and grossing complex neoplastic specimens.  He became involved in the formal recognition of the PA profession in Canada and recognized the need for further education.  In 2010, he finished his bachelor’s degree and subsequently went on to a thesis-based master’s degree in medical science specialization pathologists’ assistant.  For the last three years, he has worked as the associate director of the University of Calgary’s pathologists' assistant program.

Chevanne Scordinsky, MS, PA(ASCP)CM

Chevanne Scordinsky, MS, PA(ASCP)CM, attended University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2008.  She went on to Drexel University College of Medicine's pathologists’ assistant program and returned to her home state of New Jersey for her first job.  Today, she is a supervisor in pathology at Hackensack University Medical Center.  As a leader, she has close ties to section heads of her department.  She elicits open communication with them both to craft mutually beneficial workflows for their respective staff members, but most importantly, support good patient care.
