Special Interest Groups (SIGs) |
SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP (SIGs)With the success of our pilot Special Interest Groups (SIGs) launched in 2023, we are excited to roll out the full program to all AAPA members. The purpose of the SIG program is to allow members to customize their professional growth by
providing a deeper level of engagement in areas meaningful to them. SIGs bring together a wide range of members interested in a given topic, where they are encouraged to meet and hold relevant discussions, share resources/information,
and support those who may be interested in learning more about an area new to them. Experienced member experts in the area are invited to share the knowledge they have acquired by mentoring the future of the profession. Fill out the form here with your name, contact information, and the SIGs you would like to join. You can also request to join a SIG directly on the group portal page by clicking the "Request Membership" link in the upper right corner (see below). You will be added to the group within 8 business hours and then will be able to participate in the group portal. Prior to being added to the group, you will be able to view the group portal but not participate in forums, share photos, etc. Once you are added to the group, you will also begin receiving communications from the group lead(s). What if I am interested in a SIG that isn't yet established? Fill out the form here with your SIG suggestion(s), and indicate whether or not you are willing to lead the SIG. If you indicate that you are willing to lead a new SIG, an AAPA representative will reach out to discuss next steps. How do I attend SIG meetings? SIG meetings (or meetups, as some SIGs may refer to them) are held via Zoom. SIG members will receive Zoom information to access each meeting. Some SIG meetings may also be held in person at the AAPA Annual Conference in the fall. Check the specific conference schedule for details. Can non-members join SIGs and attend meetings? SIG membership is an exclusive perk for AAPA members. If you are not yet a member, please Join Us to enjoy access to SIGs and all our other member benefits. How often are SIG meetings held? Meeting schedules are set by each individual SIG. Some SIGs choose to meet monthly, while others opt to meet bimonthly, quarterly, or at other frequencies. You can reach out directly to a SIG lead to find out what their schedule looks like. Contact information for SIG leads can be found on each group's portal page. If I join a SIG, do I have to attend every meeting? No; we understand that our members are busy individuals, so we encourage you to attend as many meetings as your schedule allows. Some SIGs may offer meeting notes and/or recordings for you to catch up on any discussions you may have missed. You can also reach out to SIG leads or fellow SIG members for further discussion. |
